A Clogged Heart
Tuesday, February 10, 2009 at 02:49PM Jeremiah 4:14 O Jerusalem, wash thine heart from wickedness, that thou mayest be saved. How long shall thy vain thoughts lodge within thee?
Vain thoughts were lodged in their heart. Not wicked, lustful, disgusting, perverted thoughts. Just empty, worthless, time-wasting thoughts. These people were stuck on stupid stuff. Stuck on their own goals, desires, ideas, plans, dreams, and needs.
Why is that a worthless waste of time?
Revelation 4:11 Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created.
You were not created to have a sweet gig of a life. To live in your own crib, surrounded by all your peeps and favorite toys. Or, for you sophisticated ones, surrounded by a strong network of family and friends, with a 401k, dependable car, and a solid job.
You owe your future to God and God alone (I think I’ve even heard a song about that). Give up your vain thoughts. How long are you going to waste the time you have, anyhow?
“Pastor Jon, are you telling me to give up my job, family, relationships, possessions?” YES – do it in your heart. Put it all on the altar. Let God do some heart surgery. Whatever God says you can keep is okay. Everything else needs to go. Remember, the problem here was the vain thoughts in their hearts. You get that straightened out, and as far as God is concerned, you are in the center of His will, and He’ll take it from there.
